Finding your MOJO Again

November 8, 2024 Melanie Hawken

by Marjon Meyer

Are you feeling drained and lost your spark? When exhaustion, anxiety, and stress consume you, losing your MOJO can feel inevitable. However, reclaiming your vitality and enthusiasm is within reach. Begin by acknowledging your emotional state and granting yourself permission to rest. Allow your mind and body to recharge with rejuvenating activities. Reconnect with nature, whether a serene walk or simply gazing at the sky. Nourish your body with wholesome foods, hydrate with intention, and prioritise sleep. Revisit your goals and the progress you have made to achieve your important milestones.

Need a dopamine detox?

Excessively seeking pleasure and consolation may lead to a dopamine overload. Excessive dopamine levels can have detrimental effects on overall well-being. When dopamine is overproduced, it can lead to addiction, impulsivity, and compulsive behaviours, disrupting normal brain function and daily life. Chronic dopamine surges can also desensitise receptors, making it difficult to experience pleasure from everyday activities. Additionally, excessive dopamine has been linked to mental health issues such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, a chemical messenger in the brain that plays a crucial role in reward and pleasure, motivation and drive, movement and coordination, emotional regulation, learning and memory. Prolonged dopamine elevation can impact physical health, increasing heart rate, blood pressure, and stress levels, potentially leading to cardiovascular problems. Poor decision-making, impulsivity, and reckless behaviour can also result from dopamine imbalances.

What are unhealthy dopamine releasing activities?

When you do something that feels good, your brain releases a rush of dopamine. You naturally seek more of that good feeling by repeating the behaviour that made you feel good, but it is not sustainable. This could be anything from over-eating delicious food to binge-watching your favourite show. Or more harmful behaviours like too much screen time, drug or alcohol overuse.

Natural Dopamine Boosters to find your MOJO

1. A brisk walk outside does wonders for your energy, despite actually feeling tired.

2. Hydrate with water or herbal tea

3. Take a power nap (15-20 minutes)

4. Stretching, standing up from your desk or working from a different spot at the office or the house.

5. Seek social connections by spending time with people who value you and connect with you on a deeper level. Surround yourself with uplifting individuals who kindle your spark.

6. Connect with nature

7. Spend time alone and do something you enjoy or just immerse yourself in the moment

8. Revitalise your passions by exploring creative outlets or revisiting forgotten hobbies.

9. Challenge negative thoughts, reframing them into empowering affirmations.

10. Embrace self-compassion, recognizing that setbacks are temporary.

Some MOJO revival truths

When individuals tap into their inner Mojo, they become unstoppable forces, capable of achieving remarkable results. Their passion is contagious, their energy is infectious, and their authenticity resonates with potential clients. Roadblocks sometimes hinder our ability to discover and unleash our Mojo. Fear of rejection, lack of persistence, and limiting self-beliefs can hold us back, preventing us from reaching our full potential. The key is to reframe rejection as an opportunity for learning and growth. Each ‘no’ provides valuable feedback, allowing you to refine your approach and identify areas for improvement. Embrace rejection as a stepping stone, not a roadblock.

Persistence doesn’t mean blindly pushing forward without regard for strategy or feedback. It’s about adapting, learning, and refining your approach while maintaining an unwavering belief in your ability to achieve your goals. Limiting self-beliefs are insidious, whispering doubts and insecurities that can erode our confidence and hinder our progress. The key is to challenge these limiting beliefs, questioning their validity and replacing them with empowering affirmations.

Discovering your Mojo is an essential – if not the most important part – of your journey of self-discovery and growth. It requires courage to confront your fears, resilience to overcome obstacles, and a willingness to challenge limiting beliefs.

As energy and positivity resurface, your MOJO begins to reemerge. Focus on the present, letting go of worries about the past or future.  Remember, self-care is not selfish!  Small steps lead to big changes. Your well-being is a journey, not a destination – every step forward is a triumph.

By embracing your inner drive, you’ll begin to tap into the wellspring of passion, energy, authenticity, and confidence that lies within. Unleash your authentic you, say “no” more often and watch as your career and life move to more satisfying experiences.

Finally, some MOJO-Reviving Questions:

1. What activities make me feel alive?

2. What are my values and passions?

3. What’s causing stress and fatigue?

4. What self-care practices can I adopt?

5. What’s my why (purpose)?

You are welcome to contact us for a complimentary session to discuss ways to find your own or your team’s MOJO. Get ready for what lies ahead by building your skills though training or engage in a coaching session with a skilled counsellor.
