Development of entrepreneurial spirit

December 4, 2022 Melanie Hawken

by Josefa Massinga

Many have heard that "entrepreneurship is a calling." Every human being has or seeks a calling; a specific purpose to live, but it takes focus and understanding to discover that purpose. We often wonder, what is the secret of the most successful entrepreneurs? Simple. The most successful entrepreneurs simply discovered their purpose, found their entrepreneurial spirit, and remained faithful to their calling.

It is possible to realize that an entrepreneur is someone driven by ideas and dreams, without fear of betting on himself and always with the focus of starting a new project or enterprise. Awaken your entrepreneurial spirit by following some of these key steps:

1. Develop your mentality

Understand entrepreneurship here as a mindset, not as a position. The term "entrepreneur" is no longer reserved for the founder of a company. Today, entrepreneurship has more relationship with someone "who sees opportunities and pursues them" rather than "someone who starts a company". This mentality is fostered in large successful companies.

Awakening your entrepreneurial spirit begins with the development of your mindset. If you are not in the right mindset; if you don't have the right perception, your entrepreneurial spirit will remain inactive. The entrepreneurial spirit thrives on a body with the right attitude and you have to be a positive thinker to harness the power of the entrepreneurial spirit.

Like success, failure is something possible for many people. But with a positive mental attitude, failure can be a learning experience, a step on the ladder, and a landing on which you can prepare to try again.

You should also develop your mind to see opportunities where others see problems; and above all, you must change your perception of challenges and failures. You should see the problems as a trampoline, not as a rock or stumbling.

2. Develop your self-belief

The next step to awaken your entrepreneurial spirit is to develop a strong belief in yourself. Don't limit yourself. A lot of people limit themselves to what they think they can do.

You can go as far as your mind allows. Remember: "Many of the most important things in the world were achieved by people who kept trying when there seemed to be no hope of success anymore. Trust in one's own success is also the best way to make it real. So keep your head up whenever you hear a no. Even if you are very good, negative returns will always come, it is natural.

Believe me, try to be realistic and determined, because only then will you overcome adversity!

3. Reconcile your instinct with keen critical sense

Try to understand each other. You should know when your instinct is giving you a little push to move on; you must learn to obey your instinct.

But, of course, use instinct combined with critical sense. In fact, critical sense is a quality that must be worked on every day. If you're not sure about any point in the project, review and reflect until it's perfect. For example, there's no point in trying to solve problems that are beyond your control. Have realistic ambitions that are at your fingertips and make sense for your project.

If you worry about all the problems, you may not be able to achieve your goals.

4. Take an attitude

"The best way to prepare for the future is to focus all imagination and enthusiasm on the perfect execution of today's work." All your dreams, aspirations and ambitions will be in vain if you don't act. The entrepreneurial spirit is manifested in the doing phase; not in the planning or dreaming phase. So, the big question of every day is what do I need to do today to achieve my goals?

If you want to awaken your spirit; then start the entrepreneurial process and build a business. The business challenges involved in the entrepreneurial process will force your spirit to act.

5. Find time for daily reflection

At the end of each day, spend some time thinking about what went well... and what didn't happen. If you don't create time to reflect, it's hard to learn. Creating a routine around reflection can help you understand how your own actions may be hindering your success before they become a big problem.

Whether you are an employee of a company or started your own venture, the ability to change from a fixed mindset to one that is focused on growth is necessary to overcome limiting thoughts. At the end of the day, it's up to you to determine what you're capable of – no one else can say otherwise.

6. Meeting and planning your goals

A good way to feed your entrepreneurial spirit is to set goals for your own work. The important thing is that the goals are palpable, that they can be implemented. These are then the essential points for you to set clear short and long-term goals. As you get there, you might even self-reward yourself in some way. This helps to stay motivated and firm on longer goals.

7. Hire people with entrepreneurial spirit

The spirit of entrepreneurship can be developed, but the most direct way is to hire or work alongside people who already have it. However, there is a difference between an individual who supports the company's goals with the spirit of entrepreneurship and an entrepreneur who will leave when his own venture comes off.

Witty and entrepreneurial people are people who want to learn, experiment, apply, share and partner. They are interested in gaining experience in general, rather than having access to specific tools that they can use as steps for performing their own pet projects.

Entrepreneurial spirit is a mentality. It is an attitude and an approach to thinking that actively seeks change, rather than waiting to adapt to change. It is a mindset that covers critical issues, innovation, service and continuous improvement.

The entrepreneurial spirit is a way to approach situations where you feel empowered, motivated and able to take control. Companies that nourish an entrepreneurial spirit within their organization encourage their employees not only to see problems, solutions and opportunities, but also to have ideas to do something about them.

Entrepreneurial companies tend to take a more innovative approach to thinking about their products or services, new directions to take the company, or new ways of doing old tasks. Entrepreneurship helps companies grow and evolve, rather than become stagnant and obsolete.

Lionesses, if you want to invest more in you to become a prominent entrepreneur, if you want to learn how to start your own business, develop an entrepreneurial mindset or bring new ideas and energy to your current organization.

Josefa Amélia Massinga is the founder of Florista Flor Khyathu in Maputo, Mozambique. Her business, which opened in 2015, was inspired by the memory of her young niece Khyathu Massinga, who lost her life two years earlier. This store was Josefa Massinga's first enterprise, bringing her passion for flowers to a suburban area. As the only flower shop in this area at the time, she has since built up a loyal following of customers and brand recognition. She has since opened another branch called Khyathu Assessoria where in addition to flowers, customers can also access a range of other services such as floral decorations for vehicles, churches and events for special celebrations.
