Gugu Intimates introduces the FIRST skin coloured underwear brand in Africa specialising in affordable luxury undergarments to match your skin tone (across 5 shades). Founded by entrepreneur Gugu Nkabinde, Gugu Intimates aims to create beautiful underwear in nude shades more representative of the African skin palette.
Gugu Intimates currently offers a range of beautiful seamless bras and panties, including T-shirt Bras and Strapless Bras, as well as seamless Briefs and Thongs, all available in 5 nude shades more representative of the African skin palette. More to come in 2019! Gugu and her team plan on introducing more shades, cuts and sizes in 2019. The Gugu Intimates range retails online and though mall retail pop up stores (Currently at popping up at Rosebank Mall in Johannesburg, South Africa).
So what makes Gugu Intimates different in the marketplace? Well, it offers a ‘first’ to its customers. Before Gugu Intimates, nude meant shades of beige / pink/ mauve. African women are seen and represented in the shades we provide underwear in. Secondly, the brand carries a sample yet important message: You are beautiful in whatever shade of skin you have. That is why, when our customer buys a bra or undies from the Gugu Intimates range, they rediscover that the shade name means Beauty in a different language spoken in Africa:
Elewa (our lightest) - Beautiful in Yoruba
Amara - which is Arabic (spoken in a few countries east and west of the continent)
Buhle - Zulu, Ndebele, Xhosa (basically the Nguni dialect)
Zuri - Swahili
Runako - Shona
