Marjon Meyer, a South African HR specialist on a mission to help people become better versions of themselves

March 26, 2018 Melanie Hawken
Marjon Meyer

Marjon Meyer

Everyone encounters difficulties and challenges in their lives at some time or another, and often specialist help and coaching is needed to overcome those challenges. Marjon Meyer, founder of the specialist Training and HR Consulting business that carries her name, has the expertise to help others to fulfill their potential in life and business.

LoA found out more about this passionate HR specialist and her company this month.

What does your company do?

We present tailor made Training and Development and HR interventions for organizations, big and small, to ensure that staff are competent and inspired to help make organizations successful and profitable. We do our best to solve your HR problems. I also offer coaching and therapy to individuals who need more personal time and attention to become better versions of themselves or to assist people to face trauma and problem areas in their lives.

"I offer Coaching and therapy to individuals who need more personal time and attention to become better versions of themselves or to assist people to face trauma and problem areas in their lives."

What inspired you to start your company?

I spent several years in the corporate environment and gained valuable experience in HR and Training. But I had a bigger dream - I wanted to connect with more people and touch and influence more people's lives - especially women. I am also a mom of two beautiful children and needed a career that would allow more work-life balance. My family's belief in me, that I could be a consultant generating my own income, was another driving factor. Today I live my dream and work with several other associates to help people achieve their potential.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

My training and development interventions are current, well-researched, high quality and lot of fun. I can service large or small groups as well as individuals. My existing customers ask me to return again and again for more training, HR consulting and coaching. I provide a customized service after understanding your business and developmental needs first and then tailor make training and development interventions to bring out the best in your team. While we handle your HR and Training needs and problems, you can focus on your core business - we help you to become more successful.

Tell us a little about your team

My team consists of highly qualified and professional associates whom I have worked with for years - collectively we offer the entire range of HR and Training solutions by providing you with the best consultant for your business. We offer training and development, coaching, therapy, Industrial relations interventions, CCMA help, payroll solutions, job analysis, HR policies - ask us how we can help you.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And, do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

My parents are entrepreneurs, so I guess it is in my blood. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an influencer, not a controller. My journey from the corporate environment to entrepreneurship has been blessed, albeit not without challenges, disappointments and setbacks. I started out small, always wanting to be authentic by using my own training material, and this is still my trademark. I do not imitate others, although I love learning from other entrepreneurs, business people, women and especially the young generation who keeps me on my toes with product development and ensuring that my service stays relevant. I mentor other entrepreneurs and gain my inspiration along my journey by listening, reading anything relevant I lay my eyes on, and studying best practices.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

I want to continue sharing relevant knowledge and skills, building great attitudes and providing help to those in pain. I strive to do so by growing my client base and bringing in new blood by forming associates with the best in the industry. I would like every person or company I come into contact with to feel good about themselves, their product or service and their dreams. We would like to be your one-stop Training and HR service provider of choice.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

Mmm - going home after a day's work influencing people and knowing I was able to help unlock new belief and energy in themselves and in their organizations. It is also very rewarding to mostly choose my own hours and choose where my office will be for the day. I feel so blessed doing what I love and that my clients give me an opportunity to do so.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

Know yourself and your talents well, to ensure that you can capitalize on these. Be aware of your development areas and surround yourself with a competent team of people who will be there for you. Networking is the key to making potential customers know about your service product - use every opportunity you get to meet new people. And yes, I still believe in a printed business card - you never know where it will travel to!
