Nomihlali Ntsunguzi, a South African HR specialist helping businesses develop their human capital

November 26, 2023 Melanie Hawken

Nomihlali Ntsunguzi, founder, Nissi Human Capital (South Africa)

Startup Story

Nissi Business Solutions (PTY) Ltd, trading as Nissi Human Capital and founded by entrepreneur Nomihlali Ntsunguzi in South Africa, is on a mission to provide customer-centric human capital solutions to its clients. The business exists to solutions that unlock the full potential (inborn ability) of people. It is Nomihlali’s belief that an organisational culture that nurtures individual diversity will thrive at each stage of its maturity when underpinned by the simple philosophy, “everybody has a role to play”.

LoA spoke to founder, Nomihlali Ntsunguzi, about her entrepreneurial journey, her passion for HR practice, and her drive to empower more people to fulfill their inherent potential in the workplace.

Tell us more about yourself

I am a highly experienced Human Resource Director, Entrepreneur, and Human Capital Consultant with expert experience in organisational development, change management and executive coaching, and the founder and CEO of Nissi Human Capital. With over 22 years of versatile industry experience and with a solid pedigree in organisational cultural intelligence, I have delivered bespoke human capital solutions to various companies in the steel, mining, construction, manufacturing, and government sectors. As a Non-Executive Director of various Boards, I saw my expert advice being sought on the new ways of work following the Covid-19 pandemic and digital transformation. She is a Life and Team Coach, managing Nissi Business Solutions, a Human Capital Consulting Company established in 2013 that counts amongst its clientele, JSE listed companies such as Sanlam, Pan African Resources, ArcelorMittal, Old Mutual, Kumba Iron Ore, Sibanye Stillwater, and reputable institutions such as the Parliament of South Africa and the University of Johannesburg.

“I believe that an organisational culture that nurtures individual diversity will thrive at each stage of its maturity when underpinned by the simple philosophy that “everybody has a role to play”.

“Throughout the challenges I faced, including access to markets/clients, unfruitful associations, negotiated fees and other barriers to entry challenges as a newbie in the consulting space, my vision and dream kept me going, stronger every day.”

What does your company do?

We offer a full suite of human resource development services including: HR Strategy development, operating model review and design, organizational design, executive search and recruitment, employee induction, employee engagement, coaching and mentorship, transformational change management, culture and climate reviews, performance management, talent management and employee relations.

What inspired you to start your company?

It is the fulfilment of seeing people being their best and reaching their full potential through the initiatives I implemented. This led to me to believe that an organisational culture that nurtures individual diversity will thrive at each stage of its maturity when underpinned by the simple philosophy that “everybody has a role to play”.

Why should anyone use your service or product?

What sets Nissi apart is the firm belief that it is all about the client. We do not subscribe to the ‘one size fits all’ approach but listen to the client and provide solutions that specifically meet their needs. We collaborate and walk the journey towards success with the client and involve them in every step of the process to ensure sustainability of the solutions. We subscribe to excellence, integrity, simplicity, and quality service. Our processes encourage story telling of the past successes and journeying together to the future, while aligning individual, leadership, and team goals to inspire excellence.

Tell us a little about your team:

The team at Nissi is passionate about people and their professional development in an organisation. Our methods are preventative and corrective, inspiring excellence by assisting clients to transform, unlock potential, and unblock traditional differences as well as conflict and strife. We listen, facilitate, and develop processes that ensure performance at individual, team, and organisational levels. The service offered assures clients of reliability, confidence, and distilled customer service. In delivering such service, we work with reputable associates that have been in the consulting field for more than 15 - 20 years.

Share a little about your entrepreneurial journey. And do you come from an entrepreneurial background?

I financed the business myself without any assistance. Throughout the challenges I faced including access to markets/clients, unfruitful associations, negotiated fees and other barriers to entry challenges as a newbie in the consulting space, my vision/dream kept me going stronger every day. I am now proud to count JSE listed/reputable organisations as my clients.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your company?

Thought leadership in organisational efficiency.

What gives you the most satisfaction being an entrepreneur?

It is the impact my work has on people and organisations; how effective and sustainable our solutions are.

What's the biggest piece of advice you can give to other women looking to start-up?

As long as your vision is big enough to fulfil your purpose in life, don't let go regardless of the challenges you face, it will eventually pay off! Wake up every morning thinking of how and when to take the next step towards fulfilling that vision/dream.

Why LoA loves it…

We all know that our businesses are only as good as our people, and that’s why if we continually invest in our people and help them to fulfill their potential, our businesses thrive, and importantly so do our employees. Nomihlali Ntsunguzi is someone who understands this philosophy and embraces it in her business, helping other organizations and businesses, large and small, to put the development of their human capital at the top of their agendas. — Melanie Hawken, founder & ceo, Lionesses of Africa
